RUNNING IN

During the first 1000 km of vehicle operation, precautions must be observed to ensure the future performance and reliability of the engine depends on it. How to drive a car perfectly

  • The engine should not be revved hard after starting; instead, it should be warmed up gradually.
  • It is advisable to avoid maintaining the same speed for an extended period while operating the vehicle. Varying speeds will help wear down moving parts more evenly.
  • Avoid full-speed starts after coming to a stop.
  • Refrain from applying forceful braking
  • Do not operate the vehicle in high gear at slow speeds.
  • Maintain a moderate engine speed while driving.

IMPROVING FUEL ECONOMY

Many factors can influence the fuel economy (mileage) of a vehicle, including driving habits, use of air conditioning, air pressure in tires, wind speed, traffic conditions, fuel quality, vehicle maintenance, and road conditions. These factors can affect how efficiently the vehicle uses fuel.

The following instructions will help you to improve fuel economy.

Avoid excessive idling

If more than a minute passes, turn off your vehicle’s engine and restart it later. When dealing with a cold engine, avoid idling or applying full throttle until it reaches its operating temperature. Instead, allow the engine to warm up by driving it.

Avoid sudden acceleration

Slowing down suddenly while driving or at rest will save unnecessary fuel and prolong engine life. Start gradually.

Avoid unnecessary stops

Maintain a moderate, steady speed to avoid unnecessary stopping and slowing down. This helps minimize the cost of fuel by reducing the need to repeatedly accelerate and decelerate.

Keep the air cleaner clean

More fuel will be consumed and less power will be outputted if the air cleaner is clogged with dust.

Keep tire pressures correct

The correct tire pressure, indicated on the label by the driver’s door lock pillar, should be maintained to prevent wasted fuel due to increased rolling resistance.

HIGHWAY DRIVING

While driving at high speed on the highway, remember to keep this in mind.

  • The stopping distance gets longer with increasing vehicle speed. You should apply the brakes far in advance of the stopping point to add to the available stopping distance.
  • Hydroplaning occurs on rainy days when a layer of water forms between the road surface and a vehicle’s tires, eliminating contact between them. This results in difficult steering and braking, and potential loss of control. Drivers should keep speeds low on wet road surfaces.
  • At high speeds, side winds can cause damage to the vehicle. To prevent this, keep your speed low. Be prepared for unexpected jolts when entering tunnels, passing through hill cuts, or when larger vehicles overtake you.

DRIVING ON HILLS

  • The vehicle may appear to lack power and slow down when driving on steep hills.

Shift to a lower gear to allow the engine to operate in its higher power range and quickly change gears to prevent the loss of momentum.

  • The engine should be used in the next lower gear when going down a hill for braking.

While moving uphill/gradient from a stand still condition.

(Manual transmission models)

  • The parking brake should be applied firmly to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward.
  • The clutch pedal is pressed and the gearshift lever is moved to the first selection position.
  • The clutch pedal and parking brake are released, and the accelerator is pressed when the vehicle is prepared to start. Once the vehicle begins moving, the parking brake is also released.

(Auto gear shift models)

  • Firmly apply the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards. Shift the gearshift lever to the “D” position while pressing the brake pedal. Ensure that the gear position indicator in the instrumental cluster displays “1st gear.”
  • Depress the accelerator pedal gradually and release the brake pedal when the vehicle starts moving. Once moving, release the parking brake and press down on the accelerator pedal to accelerate.

WARNING

The brake pedal should not be pressed too long or repeatedly when descending a steep or long hill. This can result in the brakes overheating, reducing their effectiveness and potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control.

    Notice

The emission control system can be damaged if you turn the ignition key to the “LOCK” position or press the engine switch to change the ignition mode to “LOCK” (OFF) while descending a slope.

    DRIVING ON SLIPPERY ROAD

Wet roads cause tires to slip during braking, necessitating a lower driving speed. On icy, snow-covered, or muddy roads, reduce speed and avoid sudden acceleration, braking, and sharp steering.

    Tire chain

When required by law, tire chains must be used to increase traction or fit correctly on the vehicle’s tires. The chains must match the tires’ size. Additionally, there should be sufficient space between the fender and the chain on the tires.

    Notice

When driving and you hear the chains striking the vehicle’s body, stop and securely tighten them. If your vehicle is outfitted with full wheel caps, take them off before attaching the chains to prevent damage to the wheel caps by the chain bands.

The chain should be tightened on the front tires according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If necessary, the chain should be re-tightened after driving approximately 1.0 km. The chain should be driven on slowly once it is in place.

    Notice

When driving and you hear the chains striking the vehicle’s body, stop and securely tighten them. If your vehicle is outfitted with full wheel caps, take them off before attaching the chains to prevent damage to the wheel caps by the chain bands.

    Stuck vehicle

If the vehicle gets stuck in snow, mud, or sand, you should follow the instructions below.

The transaxle is shifted between reverse and forward-reverse range or first gear for a manual transaxle, causing a rocking motion that may help free the vehicle.

The accelerator is pressed gently to keep the wheels spinning minimally. The engine should not be revved. Excessive wheel rotation will cause the tires to dig deeper, making it harder to remove the vehicle.

An authorized roadside assistance service should be consulted if your vehicle gets stuck after being moved for a few minutes.

In the absence of towing services during an emergency, another vehicle can temporarily tow yours using a towing cable or chain attached to the towing hook at the front or rear.

    WARNING

You should not stand close to the vehicle while it is moving, and do not turn the wheels faster than the 40 km/h indicated on the speedometer. Failing to adhere to this advice could result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle.

    DRIVING ON WET ROAD

    • Avoid allowing excessive water to accumulate on the road when driving on wet roads.

This could result in water entering the engine compartment, potentially damaging the engine and/or electrical components.

    • Do not start the engine if you are stuck in deep water.
    • The engine is harmed by the incompressible substance, water, inside it.

    OFF-ROAD DRIVING

Driving in flooded areas or deep puddles should be avoided

If it’s necessary to drive through a flooded area, do so slowly in the lowest gear.

When driving in a flooded area, pull over in a safe and non-flooded location to assess the effectiveness of the brakes.

DO’S AND DONT’S SOR SAVE DRIVING

The basic rules for safe driving are outlined below. You are advised to read and comprehend them thoroughly to ensure a safe and enjoyable driving experience in your vehicle.

    • The driver’s seat should be adjusted for proper driving posture and rear view mirrors should be adjusted to provide the best possible rear view.
    • A rear-end collision can be avoided by following other vehicles at a safe distance at all times.
    • When overtaking other vehicles, you should be vigilant for approaching vehicles and prioritize safety. Avoid zigzag driving to maintain control over your vehicle.
    • Maintain adequate distance between vehicles while overtaking or changing lanes at high speed.
    • When parking your vehicle, place the gear shift lever in the first gear or reverse gear position and apply the parking brake for safety.
    • At night, drive more slowly than during the day due to limited visibility. Do not attempt to overtake other vehicles at night.
    • Keep the headlights on low beam unless it’s necessary to have them on high. Maintain clean window panes. Don’t use the wipers when the windshield is dry.

    MARGIN FOR SAFETY

Other drivers’ erratic or unpredictable driving can put your safety at risk while driving. To ensure your own safety, consider the following points:

    • Setting limits for yourself
    • Be prepared for unexpected driving behaviors
    • Stay focused and alert on the road.

Traffic rules and regulations should be followed, rather than pushing yourself to overtake other vehicles.
